Art and Pirate Camp

Art camp is one of my favorite camps. For the past two years, we have started the week with a papier-mâché project. We have to start on Monday since it takes all week for the project to dry.
This year, we made jellyfish.
The children listened to stories about famous artists and attempted to copy their works.
We finished the week with some adorable paper bag puppets.
Next up, was pirate camp. The classroom was decorated appropriately with pirate ships, fish, nets, and booty. One of the first orders of business on Monday morning was to complete our pirate ship.
The children then drew maps, created pirate flags, bedazzled cutlasses, and beaded bracelets from their trove of jewels.
On Friday, each child made their own model ship (which floats).
Though summer camp is very art-heavy, we still manage to get quite a bit of learning in!
We also manage to squeeze in song and dance daily and picnics on the slightly cooler days.
Next up, science camp!
