Wild West Week

Howdy, Partner! We spent this past week learning all about the wild west. 

We made all kinds of projects -- of course no cowboy is complete without his horse.

We learned campfire songs and made our very own three-bean chili. 

We learned to square dance...,

and we even panned for gold!

We even found out the gold in our classroom -- the golden bead material! 

This introduction tray helps our little ones identify one, ten, hundred, and thousand.

Super Safari

This week, our classroom was transformed into the Serengeti plains, one of the seven natural wonders of Africa. We learned African songs and poems and read all kinds of fun books -- one was brought all the way from Uganda and three were purchased in Kenya!   

Though we focused on animals that could be found on the savanna, we studied all kinds of exotic animals and talked about where they come from.

Armed with a compass, hat, and binoculars, we went in search of the animals hiding in our classroom. 

Amid all the fun, we did take some time to practice our reading, writing, and math and use all the fun materials in the classroom. 

We can't wait for Wild West Week!!

Get Buggy!

We were antsy to try out all of our buggy activities last week! 

We made lots of art projects and learned many fun bug facts.

We learned several poems as well. 

The Mosquitos

Mosquitos are thin.

Mosquitos are rude.

They feast on your skin.

For take out food.

The Walking Stick

The walking stick is thin, not thick,

And has a disappearing trick:

By looking like a twig or stalk, 

It lives another day to walk.

Paleontology for Kids

Our little paleontologists were so busy this week. 

We started out by making tons of fun crafts. 

We danced along the Dino Train, learned to identify several ancient animals, and inspected all kinds of fossils.

We even made our very own cast of a dinosaur!

Plants have been on our earth for over 450 million years. 

Did you know that there are some trees alive today that are over 4,000 years old? 

 Also, before they became extinct over 10,000 years ago, the equus lambei (ice age horse) roamed North America. It shared its habitat with the woolly mammoth, the scimitar cat, short-faced bears, the steppe bison, and the camel.

Did you know that over 130 species of dinosaurs have been uncovered in South America alone? 

 

Our student scientists ended the week with a dinosaur dig and geode hunt.

Shiver Me Timbers!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer break! We had such fun on the last few days of school, and after a couple weeks off, we are back having a blast in summer camp. This past week's theme was Pirate's Cove. We didn't want to run the risk of getting lost at sea, so we made some maps and learned different landforms.  

 On the off chance we found ourselves in an unknown land, we made sure we could recognize different landmarks and flags.

We made some treasure maps, went on a scavenger hunt, and danced the pirate boogie. 

 

We uncovered some secret messages, put notes in a bottle, and we adorned ourselves with bejeweled swords, bracelets, and necklaces. 

 

 

Such fun!! We cant't wait for next week's paleontology camp!

Field Day Fun

We started out the week with a visit from a Secret Chef. 

Our cooking project of the month was Worms and Dirt Pudding. Yum!!!

We had an early summer-birthday celebration,

 and, we tie-dyed some t-shirts in preparation of Field Day. 

We finished the week with Field Day!! We had so much fun playing silly games and running relay races.

It took a lot of concentration and coordination to balance the birdies on the racket. 

A jumpy house and popsicle treat was the perfect end to a fun week.
