May at Marlowe

May has been a very busy month for us so far. We have had two amazing show-and-tells.
(The caterpillars started to wrap themselves into a cocoon the last day of their visit.)
We have also been lucky enough to have TWO mommies come in to be Secret Chefs.
One helped us make cake pops.
The other helped us make butterflies stuffed with an assortment of colorful snacks.
We spent the better part of last week, getting ready for our Mommy and Me breakfast that was on Friday. We made lots of crafts and placed them in a bag as a present for our mommies. The children made a necklace, painted a pot and planted some flower seeds, and decorated a wind chime for their mommies.
Our pre-K students illustrated a picture for each of the poems in our poem recital.
These pictures were hung on the wall and decorated our room for the special day.
Our big boys spent the last few minutes before afternoon carpool on Thursday and helped the teachers dust the classroom shelves so the classroom would be sparklingly clean for our mommies.
In the midst of all of our busyness of the past week, I noticed one child reading to our guinea pig, and a big brother giving his two younger sisters a lesson on "objects that go together". :)
We loved having our mommies and grandmas come to visit our classroom on Friday!
After breakfast, we recited nine Shel Silverstein poems and sang our multiples.
Then, the children showed their mommies around the classroom.
Have a lovely Mother's Day!

An EGGcellent Time

We had a lovely surprise on the playground the other day -- there were treat-filled eggs scattered all about!
Inside, we spent some time making some bunny crafts and working with friends.
With the school year coming to an end, I foresee lots of fun upcoming events!

March Madness & More

Our last few weeks have been filled with so much excitement! Along with finishing up some last minute art-projects, two of our students brought in impressive show-and-tells.
One set of twins turned FOUR, and their incredibly creative mommy turned their birthday posters into a train and castle.
Our Pre-K3 students worked hard on perfecting their handwriting.
**These three work examples were written and drawn independently by students who were three when school started this year and will not finish Kindergarten until 2016!!**
The highlight of last week was definitely our annual puppet show from Peter Hart!
Have a great Spring Break, and I look forward to seeing you all next week!!

Spring Surprises

We have had several special surprises in our classroom recently!
A Secret Chef came for a visit and helped us capture the magic of a rainbow in a jar.
We got a guinea pig of our very own to take care of and love, and we had the opportunity to host a practice teacher from the International Montessori Training Institute.
metal insets; cards and counters
hand washing; bow frame
We have loved having Ms. Stephanie give lots of new lessons.
addition strip board; color box 3: gradation of colors
subtraction finger chart; Draw Write Now
knobbless cylinders
After reading a book about different types of homes, one of our pre-K students drew a picture of each type he leaned about.
mopping up a spill; metal insets; scrubbing art trays

color box 3; number rods
I can't wait to see what springtime excitement next week brings!

Marco Polo

We took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday and had so much fun playing lots of games outside, including Duck-Duck-Goose, Marco Polo (while crawling), and Ring Around The Rosie.
We continued the fun indoors and enjoyed many new lessons.
This afternoon, one little girl gave two of her friends a lesson on the 100 chain.
It has been so fun watching your children grow this year! In case you have been wondering where all of your child's "work" has been this week, I have been hanging onto it and will give it to you during your conference. I can't wait to brag about everyone during our parent-teacher conferences next week!
