February at Marlowe

I wonder if the children noticed that Valentine's Day was this month? :) We had several heart-theamed activities on the practical-life shelf. The collage basket, paper strips, and metal-inset paper were all holiday-appropriate. Even our science experiment on chemical reactions was festive!

This month, we exchanged sweet cards with all of our friends. We enjoyed a Secret Chef, a visit from a local dentist, a Mystery Reader, and a presentation on the Chinese New Year, complete with a goodie bag.

We opened our balloon greenhouse and discovered some radish seedlings, and Ms. Mary gave both campuses music lessons!

I can't wait to see what fun next month brings!

January at Marlowe

Along with our usual lessons, we spent a bit of time this month on sequencing and following directions. We have been working toward self-sufficiency all year, but I have now stopped all assistance on art projects with our four- and five-year-olds. I give an extremely detailed lesson and provide an example for the children to look at, but they are responsible for finding all of the materials and completing the projects themselves.
The children also completed a directed drawing of a snowman -- we typically do one of these every other month or so. I think they have done a pretty good job. :)
Both classes enjoyed Mystery Readers, music with Ms. Mary, and completed science experiments on greenhouses and condensation.
Ms. Debra's class was even able to make s'mores with their Secret Chef! The children peeled and sliced a banana before spreading marshmallow fluff onto a graham cracker and adding chocolate chips.
This month's unit has been on the Arctic and Antarctic, and our four- and five-year-olds have spent quite a bit of time on the subject (making booklets, copying paragraphs, writing stories, etc.)
All in all, we have been very busy and productive this month.
So fun!! We have lots to look forward to this month with Valentine's Day just a few weeks away!
